The Meeting Place Print

There’s so much to explore in this busy picture taken by James Lewin and winner of the Animals in their Environment category of our sixty-second Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.

It’s a black and white image of different-sized animals, including elephants, giraffes and zebras, arriving at a watering hole in Chyulu Hills National Park, Kenya.

While there was no shortage of subjects and action around this waterhole, James had to deal with the harsh, unforgiving light. So, he chose to soften the light using a camera converted to infrared, creating this dream-like scene.
