Saturn Floating Lamp

The best way to set up this floating, rotating lamp is exactly how you’d do it if you were approaching Saturn itself – read the launch manual first! You’ll soon have your own out-of-this-world world, which glows at three different light levels: white, warm yellow or light yellow. The buttons to adjust these and to switch it on or off are engraved into the base, handmade from walnut wood.

Also in the base are magnets, which enable the model planet to hover above it and spin, as soon as the power is connected and it’s switched on. The cork mat goes on top of the base to protect Saturn in case of any failed set-up missions. It’s also a good idea to keep other metal or electronic equipment, including laptops, mobile phones and bank cards, at least 20 centimetres away from the base.

Saturn is famous for its ring system, which is made up of broken pieces of comets, asteroids and moons, shattered by the gravity of the terrific gas giant. The textured rings of this 3D-printed version, however, are created using polylactic acid (PLA), a natural polymer made from renewable sources such as corn starch or sugarcane.
