Description / Fossil Shark Tooth Collection
If you’re after a fascinating new hobby, then how about collecting shark teeth? This pack contains three genuine fossilised nashers from three different types of ancient shark.
First up is Squalicorax, also known as the crow shark, which swam in the vast seas of the Late Cretaceous, 100–66 million years ago. It used its serrated teeth to feast on fish and turtles and even to scavenge on the remains of mosasaurs and plesiosaurs.
The middle tooth belonged to Otodus, a genus of mackerel shark that includes Otodus obliquus, which hunted in the warm, shallow seas 60–50 million years ago. Its better-known cousin is the mighty megalodon.
Then there’s the sand tiger shark Carcharias, which belong to the Carchariidae family of sharks, different members of which have been swimming the oceans since the Late Cretaceous. This dagger-like tooth would have helped break up bony fish and crustaceans.
