Description / Finding Room Wall Print

Finding Room © Zenya Lepper (2026). Wildlife Photographer of the Year is owned by the Natural History Museum, London.

Behaviour: Mammals, Highly Commended 2026

At the end of a long day exploring the vast Pantanal wetland by boat, Zenya saw this jaguar cub leaping over its parent on a branch overhanging the water. From a distance, Zenya stayed with them until the sun set.

With a plentiful supply of fish and aquatic reptiles in the Pantanal, jaguar populations here are roughly double those found elsewhere. When food is abundant, there is little reason to fight over it – even adults have been documented hunting and playing together.
