Description / Dolphin Tulip Wall Print
Dolphin Tulip © Chelsea Mayer (2026). Wildlife Photographer of the Year is owned by the Natural History Museum, London.
Natural Artistry, Highly Commended 2026
Chelsea had previously watched dolphins riding the bow waves of boats, but never with such a clear view. The sea was flat enough to be a window and the glint of sunlight near the eye of the central dolphin was the final touch.
Twenty-seven species of cetacean are found in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, off the California coast. The islands have been dubbed the ‘Galapagos of North America’ because of their unique, endemic species – birds, mammals, reptiles and 40 species of plant found nowhere else.
