Description / Cotton Mist Wall Print
Cotton Mist © Alexey Kharitonov (2024). Wildlife Photographer of the Year is owned by the Natural History Museum, London.
Wetlands: The Bigger Picture, Highly Commended
The Boloto Ozernoe nature reserve in Russia is a special place for Alexey, and on this trip he returned morning and evening to enjoy its beauty. He first came to the nature reserve six years previously, a time when he described it as ‘untouched by the modern world’.
Beyond the small reserve, new roads and holiday homes are under construction. As of 2024 the reserve is largely untouched, though residents of neighbouring villages occasionally ride all-terrain vehicles on it, leaving bare ruts in the vegetation.
