Description / At One with the World Wall Print

At One with the World © Robert Gloeckner (2026). Wildlife Photographer of the Year is owned by the Natural History Museum, London.

Animals in their Environment, Highly Commended 2026

Sometimes it can be hard to tell where an animal stops and its surroundings begin. That was certainly the case when Robert spotted this sleeping polar bear. Careful not to disturb it, he moved with his guide to get into position to fill the foreground of the image with drifts of snow.

Polar bears face an uncertain future from a multitude of human-induced stressors. According to scientists, the most serious threat across their range is the loss of Arctic sea ice due to climate change.
