Description / Lewisian Gneiss Geology Specimen on a Stand
Get lost in time looking at this beautiful piece of rock from all angles. The individually numbered block of light pink, grey and black Lewisian gneiss, pronounced ‘nice’, is displayed on a stainless-steel mount, with a base made from solid oak.
Each one of the limited edition 36 pieces measures 10–15 centimetres tall and come from a larger section chosen by our experts for use in the Evolution Timeline wall in our gardens.
The wall tells the story of geological time, starting with the oldest rocks in the UK – Lewisian gneiss, which formed across the Western Isles of Scotland in the Archaean Eon, between 3.2 and 2.8 billion years ago.
