Last winter, close to four million bramblings arrived to roost in a forest in Steiermark, Austria. Ewald watched in disbelief as the bramblings poured in from all directions, circling close to the ground before settling. They sat together on the trees, as though exchanging stories about their day, before moving further into the wood. Ewald solved the problem of dim light and moving branches by using a slow shutter-speed, which both captured the movement and gave a feel of the multitude of birds.
