The bee butterfly is native to the tropics of Peru. It’s one of the more elusive species in the Neotropics. It is found mainly in rainforest and cloud forest habitats, usually close to small rivers or streams. The butterfly basks on the ground, often resembling a small swallowtail. When seen in flight, it can be mistaken for a dragonfly. It has a very long thin tail extension and transparent wing panels.
