Septarian geode half

Septarian geode half

Septarian geodes were formed on ancient sea floors during the Cretaceous Period some 50 - 70 million years ago. Composed from sediments, grey limestone, brown aragonite and golden calcite, they cracked into a seven star configuration from which their name is derived. This specimen from Utah in the USA has been cut and polished to enhance the beautiful pattern.
