Fossiliferous stone is a beige limestone composed of the shells of dead marine organisms including gastropods (snails), bivalves (clams and mussels), corals and bryozoans (moss animals).

Limestone is the name for rocks that are made primarily of calcium carbonate. Biogenic limestones (made from animal or plant substances) of the type these candle holders are made of, were deposited in shallow, tropical seas.

The candle holder is 7.5cm tall and 4.8cm in diameter
