Geodes are formed when gas bubbling through molten rock is trapped and cools, later penetrated by silica solution that leaves behind layers of agate and quartz.

Celestite gets its name from a Latin word meaning ‘of the sky’ - its beautiful sky blue colour is due to the presence of gold. This specimen is from the Sakoany Mine, near Majunga in Madagascar, which has produced some of the world’s finest specimens.
