Bears use their long claws to find one of their favourite foods - honey. This tasty bear treat is found in bee’s nests in fallen logs or up trees, so sharp claws for gripping and slashing are ideal. Some bears use their curved claws to catch fish. The claws on the fore feet are particularly long. To keep their claws in good shape, bears scratch them on tree trunks. Native American Indians believe that wearing a bear claw on a necklace protects them and keeps them healthy.
